Making friends is not always as easy as it seems. You have to know what kind of people you want to befriend and choose your words carefully, but there are a few things you should never say if you’re trying to make friends. Here are 5 tips for making new friends that will help get the conversation started!
Somebody once told me that “you can’t just walk up to any person in the world and start talking.” Well, I’m here to tell them they were wrong. All you need is one sentence: “Hi!”
Join a club or group that you’re interested
Joining a club or group you’re interested in will help you because it will create conversations with people who have common interests. It’s also an easier way to make friends because there are already other people there that are interested in the same thing. You can even find new people to be friends with, which is an easier way to meet people than just cold-approaching someone.
Many clubs might have after-school hours where members can get together for activities. Although this may seem like a lot of work at first, it can actually be quite fun and rewarding once you start meeting other kids in the club.
Volunteer at a local organization
My favorite way to make new friends is by volunteering. I had always heard that volunteering was a great way to meet people with similar interests, but what really sold me on the idea was my volunteer supervisor. She told me about how she volunteers at one of the local hospitals and how it has helped her get to know the people in the community better.
I am currently working at an animal shelter and am planning on continuing my volunteer work here until I can find more time for other things like school or my job. Volunteering is only one way to make friends; you could also go out into your community, attend social gatherings, or join clubs or organizations near you.

The more time you spend with people, the more likely it will be that you’ll become friends! You can also try joining a group that shares a hobby or interest of yours. For example, if you like to bike, try biking clubs, bike meet-ups, or bike stores.
If you’re not sure who else is going to be attending the event you’re going to, bring some cards with your name and contact information on them. Remember: make sure the card won’t get wet!
When meeting new people for the first time, make sure to use gentle eye contact and open body language.”
Meet new people on the Internet by joining social media groups, chatrooms, forums, etc
A great way to meet people on the Internet is by joining social media groups. The best way to find these groups is through sites like Facebook or Google Plus where you can search for them. You can also look at other websites like Meetup if you want to find events in your area, public forums, and chatrooms where you can find people with similar interests. It’s important not to be too picky about who you talk to online because it’s easy to seem too intimidating. If you’re not sure what to say, just ask questions or share information about yourself.
Be outgoing! Talk to others and be friendly while doing so! Smile often too
Be outgoing! Talk to others and be friendly while doing so! Smile often too. It is important to not just talk about yourself, but also show interest in what they have to say. Listen carefully to the other person, ask them questions about their lives, hobbies, or interests.
