It sounds great, doesn’t it? Working from home…ahhhh. But where to start? There are actually many ways to work from home, and if you are just starting your search get ready for a smorgasbord of choices! Whether you choose to do something on the computer, or something in your local area, you have lots to choose from. EBay is a very popular way to make money from home. You can sell items you have around the house that you are no longer using, clothes your children have grown out of, or you can sell things you have made. But you don’t have to stop there. Many women make great money by picking up items at yard sales and thrift stores for pennies on the dollar, which you can sell for a good profit online! Another way to make money with eBay is to help people who may not be as computer literate as you or maybe they just don’t have time to list their own auctions. You can make good money as an “auction specialist”. To do this, you can take pictures of items other people want to sell on eBay, post the auctions and take care of shipping the item to the buyer. You earn a commission plus a percentage of the sales price. Maybe you’ve got a secretarial background. If so you can find work online as a virtual assistant. The job duties can be varied, including answering emails, making phone calls, maintaining websites, data entry, and more. There are even certification programs for virtual assistants, which gives you extra credentials. To earn even more, if you’re good at designing websites, there is a constant need for that, as well as graphic design. Do you like to write? A copywriter (also known as ghostwriter) can make money by writing articles, sales letters, advertising copy and more for internet marketers. This is an art as well as a science and there are excellent home study courses to put you in top shape with these skills. Maybe you’d rather do something local and not necessarily online. Home-based daycares can be lucrative, and handy if you’re already home with your own little ones. If you love to organize and clean, you can set up a home business as professional organizer and get paid to clean out other people’s closets, attics, garages, etc. Are your kids all in school? You can make good money by providing errand services on an hourly basis during school hours. Along the same lines, maybe you’re good at organizing events. These can be events for people, such as parties and weddings; or you can organize events for businesses such as meetings, luncheons, and even business expos. Direct sales is another popular option and has something for everyone, no matter what you like to do. Cooking, scrapbooking, children’s books, candles? Get out one or two nights a week and have some fun and earn money at the same time. Some of the companies allow you to sell these items online as well as in the traditional “party” setting. The possibilities for working at home are as varied as you are. Think about what appeals to you, something that you could stay motivated at and do well, ask lots of questions, and you will find exactly the right thing for your own situation. (c) 2007 Becki Maxson
