What are Business Advisors

By: Bizymoms.com Management

There is no doubt that the business environment is becoming more and more dynamic with the rapid development of techniques. As in any other sphere of activity there is a consequent increase in competition with a large number of new firms springing up. Then comes the question, how could a firm survive in face of such tough competition in a volatile environment?

With that question in mind, the heads of an organization would turn to their managers and employees for help. The managers and employees could help and provide solutions for the problems to a certain extent, but they may lack the necessary skills and knowledge to make the right decision. It is at this point that the company and its directors or heads will have to seek the help and advice of a specialist. Who will they go to? It would definitely be a Business Advisor. This article explains what business advisors are and the role they play in today’s business and its environment.

Business advisors are those people, possibly an individual (who provides advice alone) or a group of people (from a company or an alliance), who help businesses by way of providing solutions to their problems. Business advisory services include legal, management consultancy and other areas such as advertising. Business advisors provide advice and offer expertise in solving specific problems that each and every business faces or can provide advice to the management on general matters which affects the business.

One advantage of seeking advice form Business Advisors is that they are experts in their respective fields as said earlier and hence they will have the knowledge to find out exact details of the problem. With their investigations they will go to the root of the problem, find out what caused it and advise how it can be solved. Since they have a wider knowledge pertaining to that subject, they see the larger picture unlike other personnel. This is why they say that business advisors focus on the forest, unlike the owners of the business who focus only on the trees.

For e.g.:- The owner of the business might assume that the fall in sales is due to a failure in proper marketing and adopt some action to correct it, whereas the root cause of the problem might not be it at all.

The next advantage is that since Business Advisors are (mostly) external parties, their feedback and suggestions will be true and unbiased unlike in a case where people from inside are making decisions and providing advice. Neutrality is something unique in them. A set of business advisors together will be able to figure out even the finer points of a problem, which would not be the case if an internal person did the job.

Business advisors may provide services in various fields of Business, such as Strategic and Operational Planning, Resourcing and Networking, Financial Analysis/ Modeling, Marketing and Market Research, Legal, Project Management and Leadership, System and Process Improvements, Training, Development and Education and Meetings Facilitation.

However, when choosing a Business Advisor, one should check as to its reputation and experience so that a clearer picture of them could be obtained. If you could get hold of their clientele, a much precise feedback could be obtained, which would help you decide whether to seek their services or not. It should also be noted that since they are experts in the field, hiring them can be costly. However, a business is not likely to be at a disadvantage, since the savings obtained by following their advice will generally be much larger than what a company spends on them.

So, if your business, be it large or small, experiences issues which cannot be solved internally and does not have a business advisor, what is best is to obtain the services of a recognized Business Advisor. You would be assured of business success.
