Is your website traffic staying once they hit your homepage? When someone is visiting a website, there are certain things that are going to make them leave your site faster than anything else. When you are building a website for your business, avoiding the mistakes below is going to help you have a website that people are going to want to browse and that they are going to come back to again and again. Loud music For most people, they are going to be shocked when they go to a website and the first thing that they hear is loud music. Not everyone that is going to come to your website is going to want to hear that music, and in some cases it can be startling. If you want to have music, put an option on your website to play your music, but don’t force it on people. You don’t know if they are visiting your site during the night or if there may be children napping. Strobe flashing Keep in mind that there are going to be people who are coming to your website that may be made sick because of strobe lights or they may have a problem with seizures. You never know who is going to come to your website or what type of problems they might have. So don’t put flashing lights on your site, because it’s something that visitors are not going to appreciate. Or, use them in moderation as a part of your website’s home page, not the primary focus. Podcast Podcasts are great. They allow people to get some good information and they allow them to hear the person speaking. However, there is nothing more annoying than to click on a website and to be forced to listen to a Podcast that they may not care about. Remember that there are people who are looking at your website late at night or when a baby may be sleeping. Give people the option to listen to your Podcast, but don’t force it on them. Chances are if they are forced to listen to your Podcast, they aren’t going to listen and they are likely going to click off of your website without having a chance to look around. Bright colors Have you ever been to a website that hurts your eyes? Nothing is more annoying than to have to put on a pair of sunglasses so that you can comfortably view a website. Instead of going with colors that are going to make your customers’ eyes hurt, go with colors that are easy on the eyes. You will find that your customers and visitors are a lot happier. Websites can be a very good part of Internet marketing, but it can also be something that can be the downfall of your business. When you are building your website, think about the things that have annoyed you about a website and avoid doing them with your own. Chances are if you didn’t like those things on another person’s website they are things that people won’t like on your website. If you are in doubt about something, leave it off. It’s better to be safe and not use it than to lose someone because of it.
