How to Start a Clothing Company in one day

In the old days (like 2000), a clothing company could have taken you months, even years to prepare and execute. Upon the initial idea and vision, we wasted countless hours planning, testing, and experimenting — all to provide our audience with the perfect seasonal "line". Nowadays, the concept of the clothing "line" is dying and the idea of a constant stream of trendy cotton is in full steam. I present to you, The 24 Hour Clothing Company.

Planning

Although this method is all about spontaneity, we will need to make a few decisions up front. First off, what should we name our brand? I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm going to name our brand "Spontaneous Clothbustion". Sweet plan. Estimated Time Elapsed: 15 minutes.

Storefront

Another quick decision we must make is where we want to sell our clothing. After carefully considering our short time frame, I have decided to go with Spreadshirt because of their ability to screen print "on-demand" and their social aspect… I mean, who has time for advertising with a deadline like this? Products

I'll assume here that you don't have any previous experience in designing for t-shirts, so here's the 1 minute crash course. Most screen printers require an image file that is in high resolution or in a scalable vector form. Spreadshirt requires a vector image, which is the type of file you get by drawing in Adobe Illustrator. If you don't have Adobe Illustrator, download the fully functional 30-day-trial here. Practice for a few minutes, making use of the text tool and the pen tool.

Once you get a little experience under your belt, opt for the better quality screen print. Estimated Time Elapsed: 6 hours

Marketing

We're going to spend the last bit of our time marketing our new clothing company. Start small, for example, leave your store address in the comments of this post. Then, branch out into t-shirt forums and other t-shirt blogs. Log on to your myspace and send a link to all of your friends. Message your AIM buddies with your link and get it into your profile. The more eyes the better. Estimated Elapsed Time: 14 Hours.

And that's all there is to it. If this certain array of designs don't sell, redesign and start again… It's that easy.
