Since there are so many things that can cause foot pain, preventing it is not always easy. People that suffer from heel and foot pain find it difficult to figure out where the pain is coming from. There are many different things that can cause heel and foot pain and it is a common problem among people of all ages. Many times standing for long periods of time or wearing the wrong type of shoes can cause your foot pain, but other times it can be caused by a condition more serious. Using the tips below can help in preventing foot pain: 1. Do not walk around barefoot - When you walk around barefoot there are a lot of things that could cause injury when you step on them. This is especially dangerous if you are diabetic and if you go outside barefoot. You won't even see some of these dangers until an injury occurs, but they can be prevented by wearing your shoes 2. Choose the correct shoes - It is important that you wear shoes that fit correctly and provide you with the proper amount of support for your feet and the activity you are engaging in that day. If you wear shoes that are too small or too large you are doing damage to your feet. Most people don't realize just how much damage this actually does. 3. Take a load off- Remember to take some time to prop up your feet, soak them at the end of the day and enjoy time without your shoes on. Your feet need to rest. 4. Remember your hygiene- You also need to protect your feet from germs, bacteria, fungus and other problems that can result from poor hygiene. Always keep your feet clean and dry and change your socks when needed. 5. Protect and stretch when exercising - Before you work out or go for a run make sure that you stretch and wear good supporting shoes. Your feet have 26 bones in each foot and several muscles that need to be protected. If you take the time to help prevent foot pain, you won't have to worry about suffering with it at a later date. As with anything "prevention is always the best medicine". It is advised that you see a podiatrist or at least your family doctor if you do suffer from foot pain. Never just ignore this pain and hope that it will go away as this could make the condition much worse. You need to take the best care of your feet as you can, considering the fact that you stand on them all day.
