Special diets and various other treatments that researchers have discovered that can be a tremendous help to those that suffer from autism. Families of children that suffer from autism may become very frustrated while trying to find the proper treatment for their child. One treatment for children with autism is to change their diet to a gluten free diet. BODY: Autistic children often have lower levels of detoxification enzymes and antioxidants and may therefore be more susceptible to environmental toxins and food chemicals such as gluteus. Autistic children have significantly lower mean levels of detoxification/antioxidant enzymes making it much more difficult to break down glutens. Numerous studies have reported that supplemental nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, vitamins, and magnesium may provide moderate benefits to autism patients. Avoidance of glutens and other food chemicals may also provide some relief to autism patients.
